The Girl Behind the Overalls

Illustrating a children’s book about a girl with epilepsy was deeply rewarding. I used color, shape, and expression to show her honest, hopeful world — from quiet fear and confusion to bright moments of strength. The pictures show her taking her life by the reins and doing things that she was told she couldn’t. I wanted the images to normalize her experience, invite empathy, and show that epilepsy is just one part of a brave, imaginative girl who finds joy, connection, and confidence.
